We started Term 2 off with studying the progressive era in American History. This era focuses on the reforms and laws enacted by three presidents, Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, and Woodrow Wilson. Teddy Roosevelt focused on trust busting large corporations and preserving the National Forest. Taft passed several pieces of legislation as well, but was not as progressive as Roosevelt. Wilson was the president for several terms and most of his progressive actions were done before and during World War I. We were assigned a project, which was we were assigned to a progressive president and then after conducting research, the groups had a debate about which of the three presidents were most progressive. This was used as a way to study and then we were tested on the Progressive era. We then started World War I and discussed the factors of why the United States entered the war and what were the effects during and after the war on the United States. After doing this we were given a test on World War I. Most recently, we have started to discuss the 1920's in America, looking over the economy, culture, and politics that occurred during this era. After Christmas break, so far we've started to study the Great Depression, it's effects on American society and the reforms Herbert Hoover and FDR passed to ever change American society. We tested on the Great Depression and started to look at the foreign policy side of the US from the 1920's until the end of World War 2. We quizzed on this right towards the end of the term.
